On Monday, at the staff training day, the prize was drawn for the winner of the library 2.0 competition. Eleven staff completed the training and Gill (Scully) was the lucky winner of the ipod with Jennie Bolitho and Lorrie Stearns taking 2nd and 3rd prizes of a dinner voucher from Khyats and a book from James Bennet.

Congratulations to Jennie and her team at Beaumaris with the most staff complete the training by 30 September.

It's not over though!!! You can still continue to participate in the training and receive a USB when you have finished.

Today is the last day to finish 2.0 training and post blogs, then you'll be in the draw for great prizes to be drawn tomorrow lunchtime.

Lot's of people have been doing work on their blogs and getting through the 23 things. Well done everyone!!!

There are now only 13 sleeps for the chance for library staff to win great prizes if they finish all 23 things by Monday 1 October. Never fear though because library staff can still win a prize for finishing even after the training day on 1 October.

For everyone else keep blogging!!!! There's a lot of cool things to learn.

Hi everyone its great to be back and catching up on all your blog postings. I was also pleased to see that some more people have finished the Library 2.0 training.

The training time is almost over and you have until 30 September to finish the 23 things and be in the draw for an ipod and other fabulous prizes.

These will be drawn at lunch time on the library training day on 1 October.

Jill will be organising some information sessions for those of you who have been a bit loathe to get into the swing of library 2.0. Watch out for details.

In the meantime have another go at the 23 things and as there are now several people who have finished you'll be able to get lots of advise from colleagues.

It has been a few weeks since I last added a new post.
There have been a few updates from Karyn, who seems to have the library at Mt. Hagan well and truly under control !
And Peter has forged ahead on his quest into the great unknown.

I am having a break for a week, and hope to have lots of new blogs to read and little green squares to fill in on the "tally board" when I return.

Our intrepid volunteer has arrived safe and sound BUT believe it or not there isn't any mobile or internet access where she is !!!!!!!

How will she survive I hear you ask - she did manage to get an email out via the volunteer organization in Port Moresby, so where there's a will there's a way.

The much publicized blog may be a non-event for a while as she will have to get to an Internet cafe "in town" before she can blog away.

In fact we three winners. Gillian, Simmone and Trevor. There was bit of competition going on with Gillian and Simmone as to who was going to beat Trevor but they all finished on the same day at around the same time. I could go to a photo finish but they all worked sooo hard yesterday that they all should get a reward.

Now the race is on for 4th place so keep on doing those 'things' and don't forget to tell me in you blog which # you have completed.

# 22 is about downloadable audio books, unfortunately the link is no longer in existence but you can still read and listen to what its all about...some of you may like to contact Sarah and talk to her about the research she's been doing on audiobooks online.

All is quiet on the Western Front

Things have been very quiet from all our Learning 2.0 participants. Training for Spydus 8 and getting organised for Library Week will be taking up everyone's time I suspect.

Once that is all over we'll get back into '23 Things'. A couple of people are nearly finished and there will be a prize for the first person to complete all the exercises.

Welcome to the Bayside Library Blog. This is where you will begin your journey to learn all about the wonderful world of Library 2.0 Charlotte and Mecklenburg Public Library has developed a training program called '23 Things'. There are 23 Things (or small exercises) that you can do on the web to explore and expand your knowledge of the Internet and Web 2.0. Staff are encouraged to complete all 23 items on this list by 25 September 2007. Those staff that complete all items by this date will qualify to be entered in the draw for an iPod Nano (donated by Civica), meal vouchers (donated by Khyat's Hotel) and other prizes which will be drawn at the All Staff Training Day on 1 October. Put aside an hour a week and don't be afraid to ask other people for help. It's all about having fun and learning at the same time.

What about Privacy?
There is none! Everyone can read your Blog, this is the nature of Blogs in general.

Suggestions: You can remain anonymous by choosing a Generic Name for the Blog and hide your user profile if you wish.
Keep in mind the type of Posts you make and use discretion in mentioning names/places etc. Copyright issues and intellectual content also apply to Blogs.

How do I Register?
Use the online registration form on the web technologies page. It also includes a Blog registration. Use the CUT and PASTE method to put your URL into your registration form or emails.

How does this online learning program work?
This is a self-discovery program which encourages staff to take control of their own learning and to utilize their lifelong learning skills through exploration and PLAY. There will be no classes or workshops offered to support this program. Instead, staff are encouraged to work together and share with each other their discoveries, techniques and "how to's" both in person and through their blogs.

Is this Program open to All Bayside Staff?
Yes the Program is open to All Bayside Staff regardless of position or status (full or part time).

How long do I have to complete this program?
The program begins on 5 March and ends on 30 September, but you will still follow the ’23 things’ Blog' to complete tasks.

How do I track my progress?
Each staff member that chooses to participate in this program will be required to keep a blog to track their own progress. Basically you will make regular posts to your Blog about what you are learning, likes dislikes etc. Noting each week and addressing each 'Thing'!

Will there be any training classes offered to show staff how to do this?
No, this is a self-directed learning program. If you feel you need assistance with an item, you are encouraged to be resourceful and to find a co-worker or another staff member who can help. You can also view other particpant's blogs

Can I work ahead through the list of items on my own?
Yes, of course. You are encouraged to self-direct your discovery process, especially by working ahead on your own!!
